Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam…

Just thinking about Monty Python makes me smile, they were not only geniuses but also visionaries...

I would like to think that SPAM was given its name after someone watched Monty Pythons spam sketch… Spam, Spam, Spam, SPAM!!! It’s very fitting as most of the time my email is filled with the stuff, it’s relentless.

Just thinking about Monty Python makes me smile, they were not only geniuses but also visionaries. Of course, like real life, they didn’t always get it right, but I think we can follow the 80-20 rule and say that most of the time they were BRILLIANT.

If you’ve not heard of Monty Python – this will help you understand.

I actually think that this has got worse since the introduction of GDPR, there are now rules and if you follow them, then you are allowed to send me all sorts of cr*p that I don’t want.

Well, this morning after 25 years in this industry (OMG, that’s a bit scary) I finally snapped and did something that I have wanted to do for such a LONG time, I replied to one of the emails.

For those that don’t know, we are a web design and marketing company, designing, developing and marketing websites for a wide range of businesses. One of the most annoying emails, that I probably get 20 times a day, are ones like this…

Obviously, I was worried, “error reports”, what could they be! Well like most websites you will have some errors, we develop custom WordPress themes for all our projects, large and small, so these are minimised… but there will ALWAYS be a few and these are usually nothing to worry about.

I was more worried that he had searched for 3 or 4 pages and not found us, what could he be searching for. At least he didn’t say what most of the others say “We can help you get seen for the searches you aren’t getting seen for now, we did a test, and you aren’t being found for lots of searches!!” Really, well as a design and marketing agency we do our best, but obviously being psychic and knowing ALL the searches we want to be found for is going to help, so maybe we should speak to these people!?

Another worry is that they say that they have looked at our website, but don’t realise what we do, we seriously need to make things clearer.

Luckily for me, Mr Brown didn’t give up and when I didn’t reply to his first email, he replied with a polite follow-up, how considerate.

Well in the spirit of having a little fun, I replied…

We didn’t hear back, so we have also sent a pre-emptive follow-up!

To summarise, does anyone EVER reply to these emails? I get so many of them, it makes me think that these people do actually get work from them! Surely, they wouldn’t keep doing it if they didn’t? Which leads me onto my next question, what the hell are you doing? Is your current web developer or marketing company so bad that you reply to these!!!

If you need advice or any help with marketing, website design or web development drop us a quick email and worst case we can give you some good advice; but please stop replying to these emails, then maybe I won’t get so many.
