The Meta One subscription is Meta’s new paid membership for Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI, launched globally on 15 September 2026. The apps themselves stay free, but paying now unlocks extra features. The personal plans add customisation and more AI, while the business plans add a verified badge, impersonation protection, clickable links in organic posts and reels, extra visibility tools, deeper insights, human support and more automated WhatsApp replies. For most small businesses the part that matters most is links, because some Facebook Pages that do not subscribe can now only share links in two posts a month.
We are Sokada, a family-run web design and digital marketing agency in Heathfield, East Sussex, and we look after social media and paid advertising for local businesses. Meta One changes what you can do on Facebook and Instagram without paying. Before you spend anything, it is worth knowing what each plan includes, what it costs, what has changed for free accounts and whether it makes sense for your business.
What Stays Free on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
If you use the apps to keep in touch with friends and family, nothing changes. Meta’s announcement says the core experience across its apps stays free, and Meta AI remains free for everyone. You do not need a subscription to post, message customers, run a business Page or advertise.
Paid advertising works exactly as before. Links in adverts are not affected by Meta One or by the new limits on link posts, so if Meta ads are already bringing you enquiries, that side of your marketing carries on as it is.
Meta One is also separate from the ad-free subscription Meta introduced in the UK in 2025, which lets people pay £2.99 a month on the web or £3.99 a month on mobile to use Facebook and Instagram without adverts. That subscription removes ads for the person paying, and it does not include any Meta One features.
Meta reported 15 million subscriptions and trials when it announced the global launch, so plenty of people are already paying for something. The question for a business owner is which of the paid features are worth the money.
Meta One Plans and Prices Explained.
Meta lists its prices in US dollars and says features, plans, availability and pricing can vary by region, app and account. It also says Meta One is not available in every region, and that it decides which business plans an account can see based on its activity on Meta’s apps, such as profile visits, post engagement and message conversations. The simplest way to check the UK price and the plans open to your business is to start the sign-up in the Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp app, which shows exactly what your account can get. Meta One is split into personal plans and business and creator plans.
Personal Plans.
- WhatsApp Plus, $2.99 a month. A custom app icon, app themes, extra pinned chats, exclusive stickers and ringtones, and upgraded chat lists.
- Instagram Plus, $3.99 a month. A custom app icon, more pinned posts on your profile, multiple Story audiences, super hearts, Story spotlights and custom fonts for your bio.
- Facebook Plus, $3.99 a month. A custom app icon, super reactions and previews on Stories, a searchable Story viewer list, longer Story expiry and Story rewatch insights.
- Core, $7.99 a month. All three Plus plans together, with more Meta AI usage to generate and edit images, create videos and add voice and sound effects.
- Premium, $19.99 a month. Everything in Core with expanded Meta AI usage and more video creation.
None of the personal plans includes a verified badge or link features, so they are not the plans to buy for a business account.
Business and Creator Plans.
- Essential, $14.99 a month. The option to apply for a verified badge and impersonation protection, a link page on Instagram, an upgraded link sheet on Facebook, more access to the Meta Business Agent for 24 hour AI replies on WhatsApp, a custom web address and one verified channel in WhatsApp Business, plus the WhatsApp Plus extras.
- Advanced, $49.99 a month. Everything in Essential, plus clickable links in organic posts and reels, a fuller business profile covering up to three locations, a bold Follow button and follow invitations on Facebook, the chance to be featured in Facebook Feed, optimised search, Facebook custom audience insights, Instagram competitive insights and a longer insights history. It also adds advanced content scheduling on Instagram, including posts and reels up to a year ahead (rather than 30 days without a plan) and Stories up to 30 days ahead, an optimised posting schedule on Facebook, shared Instagram access for four people, one human support case a month, three verified WhatsApp channels, 500 WhatsApp broadcast credits, six linked devices and even more Business Agent replies.
- Expert, $149 a month. Everything in Advanced with expanded link allowances, fuller profiles for up to five locations, five support cases a month, shared Instagram access for eight people, custom chat themes, five verified WhatsApp channels, 1,250 broadcast credits, ten protected business accounts, eight linked devices and expanded Business Agent replies.
- Max, $499 a month. Everything in Expert with the largest link allowances, fuller profiles for up to eight locations, support cases with no monthly limit, shared Instagram access for 30 people, personalised content strategy advice from Meta, ten verified WhatsApp channels, 5,000 broadcast credits, 50 protected business accounts, ten linked devices and the most Business Agent replies.
Meta describes Meta One as building on Meta Verified, its earlier paid verification scheme. Meta says nothing changes for current Meta Verified subscribers for now and it will tell them when they can switch, so if you already pay for verification, check what you have before buying another plan.
Creator Plans.
Meta also offers creator plans with the same names and prices, Essential at $14.99, Advanced at $49.99, Expert at $149 and Max at $499 a month, each charged per profile. They are built for people who post as themselves, such as coaches, makers and personal brands. They include the verified badge option, impersonation protection, links, insights, scheduling and support in a similar way to the business plans, along with the Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp Plus features and more Meta AI usage, but without the WhatsApp Business features. If you trade under a business name with a business Page, the business plans are the ones to look at.

Meta One Is Charged per Profile.
This is the detail most businesses miss. Meta prices each business plan per Facebook Page, Instagram profile or WhatsApp Business number, so each one needs its own plan. If you want Advanced on both your Facebook Page and your Instagram account, you pay for two Advanced plans, which is close to $100 a month before local pricing and tax.
For a small business that is a real monthly cost, so it is worth deciding which profile brings in the most enquiries and starting there rather than subscribing everywhere at once.
The Facebook Two Link Limit Explained.
Alongside Meta One, Meta has been limiting how often some Facebook Pages can share links without paying. On Pages where the limit applies, Meta’s Help Centre says you can include links in up to two organic posts or comments per month. The count resets on the 1st of each month, or on your renewal date if you subscribe, and unused links do not roll over.
Meta started testing a link limit in December 2025 on Facebook Pages and profiles in professional mode, and reports suggest the test has widened since Meta One launched. It does not apply to every Page yet. If you add a link to a post and see a warning about your monthly allowance, your Page is included. The number of Facebook posts or comments with links allowed each month by plan is
- No plan, 2
- Essential, 2
- Advanced, 8
- Expert, 20
- Max, unlimited
Essential does not raise the limit, so Advanced is the first plan that gives you more. Some links do not count at all. Adverts, links to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, affiliate links through Facebook’s own partnerships and extra links in the comments of a post that already has a link are all exempt. The limit counts posts rather than links, so one post with three links in it uses one of your two. When you do share a link from your Page, Meta lets you choose your own preview image and add a call to action button to the post.
Clickable Links in Instagram Posts and Reels.
Instagram has never allowed clickable links in normal post captions, which is why so many businesses rely on the link in their bio. On Advanced and above, Meta One lets you add a clickable link to organic Instagram posts and reels, sending people straight to your website, shop or latest offer.
The allowance is smaller than on Facebook. Advanced currently includes links in 4 posts and 4 reels a month, Expert in 8 of each and Max in 12 of each, so even the top plan has a monthly limit on Instagram. Every business plan, including Essential, also gets a link page on Instagram for listing several links in one place. For a business whose customers find it through Instagram, one tap less between seeing a post and landing on the right page can make a difference to how many people go on to enquire.
What Meta One Means for WhatsApp Business.
If your customers message you on WhatsApp, the business plans add a set of WhatsApp Business features, charged per WhatsApp Business number. Essential gives you a verified channel, a custom web address and more access to the Meta Business Agent, which uses AI to answer customer messages 24 hours a day. Advanced and above add more verified channels, broadcast credits for sending messages to customers in bulk, more linked devices, human support cases and more Business Agent replies, while Expert and Max also include protected business accounts.
Meta’s announcement describes these as features of the WhatsApp Business app. If your business uses WhatsApp through a third-party tool or CRM on the WhatsApp Business Platform, check with your provider before subscribing, as Meta has not set out which of the plan features apply there.
Do Links Posted Through Scheduling Tools Count.
Many businesses schedule their posts through Meta Business Suite or a third-party tool. Meta’s Help Centre says links in organic posts and comments published on your Page count towards the monthly limit, and it does not make an exception for posts published through scheduling tools, so it is safest to assume they count in the same way. If you rely on a tool to publish, keep track of how many link posts you have used each month, and check whether it supports the new Instagram post and reel links before you plan content around them.
Do Links in Facebook and Instagram Stories Count.
Stories give you a way to keep sharing links without using up your monthly allowance. On Instagram, the link sticker in Stories has been open to every account since 2021, and Meta One has not changed that. The Instagram link allowances in the paid plans only cover posts and reels, so you can keep adding link stickers to your Stories whether you subscribe or not.
Facebook is less clear cut. Meta’s Help Centre says the two link limit applies to “organic posts and comments” and does not mention Stories at all. Marketers, including Facebook specialist Mari Smith, report that links in Stories are still working outside the limit. One UK agency write-up from early October describes link stickers on Facebook and Instagram Stories as “no deduction”, with one sticker per Story but no limit on how many Stories you post. Until Meta confirms this, look out for a warning about your monthly allowance when you add a link to a Facebook Story.

The Pros of Meta One for Small Businesses.
- Links where your customers already are. Advanced lets you send people from a post or reel straight to a booking page, an offer or a blog, rather than asking them to go and find the link in your bio.
- Protection from copycat accounts. Every business plan includes the option to apply for a verified badge and impersonation protection, which help customers trust they are dealing with the real business.
- Replies on WhatsApp around the clock. The Meta Business Agent can answer customer questions with AI when nobody is free to reply, with more replies on each higher plan.
- Help to be found. Advanced adds a bold Follow button, follow invitations, optimised search and the chance to be featured in Facebook Feed.
- A person to talk to. Advanced includes one human support case a month, which rises on the higher plans.
- Safer team access and better reporting. Advanced gives four people shared access to Instagram, along with competitive insights, audience insights and a longer insights history.
The Cons to Weigh Up.
- The cost adds up. Paying per profile means the price doubles or triples if you want the same features on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
- Visibility is not guaranteed. Advanced includes visibility tools, but Meta does not promise a set amount of extra reach. If your posts are not reaching anyone now, links alone will not fix that, and a well targeted ad budget is usually a better use of the money. Our guide to boosting a post versus running a Meta ad explains how to get more from that budget.
- Some limits are not published. Meta describes Business Agent capacity as more, even more, expanded or maximum without giving numbers, which makes busy periods hard to plan for.
- Not every business can see every plan. Meta decides plan availability based on your account’s activity, and features vary by region and account, so two businesses may not be offered exactly the same thing.
What Meta One Means for Online Shops.
If you sell products through Shopify, WooCommerce or another platform connected to Meta, none of the Meta One plans mention Shops, product catalogues or product tagging, and Meta has not announced any change to them. If you tag products in your posts and reels today, you can carry on doing so, with each tag taking people to that product.
Product tags only point to products. Meta One links are for everything else, such as a blog post, a booking calendar, an enquiry form, an email sign up or a review page. An online shop that only wants to link to products may not need a link plan at all.

- Open the Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Meta AI app on your phone, as Meta asks you to subscribe through its mobile apps.
- Make sure you are logged in to the account you want to upgrade. On Instagram that is your professional account, and on Facebook it is your business Page or profile in professional mode.
- Start the subscription from the Meta One option in the app. Meta shows the plans, features and price available to that account before you pay.
- Repeat this for each Page, profile or WhatsApp Business number you want on a plan, as each one is charged separately.
- Change your plan, update payment details, view billing history or cancel in your account settings in the app. You can cancel at any time and keep your benefits until the end of the billing period.
Should Your Business Pay for Meta One.
At Sokada we judge any marketing cost by whether it brings in enquiries or sales you can count, and Meta One is no different. Here is how we would think about it.
You can probably skip it if you are a local business that uses Facebook and Instagram mainly to stay visible, and most of your enquiries come from Google, your website, recommendations or paid adverts. Two free link posts a month on Facebook and the link in your Instagram bio will cover most needs.
Essential is worth a look if fake accounts have copied your business before, if customers expect to see a verified badge, or if you want WhatsApp to answer common questions when you are busy.
Advanced makes sense if Facebook or Instagram is one of your main sources of website visits, you regularly post offers, blogs or booking links, and one or two extra enquiries a month would cover the cost. Start with the single profile that brings in the most traffic.
Expert and Max are for larger teams handling a high volume of WhatsApp conversations, managing several locations or posting links many times a month across several people.
How to Get More From Facebook and Instagram Without Paying.
- Save your two Facebook link posts for the things that matter most each month, such as a seasonal offer, a new service or an important blog.
- Put every link you need in that one post, as the limit counts posts rather than individual links.
- Point your Instagram bio link at a page built to turn visitors into enquiries, not just your homepage.
- Use adverts when you need traffic, as links in ads are not limited.
- Make sure your website is ready for the people who do click through, as a link only helps if the page it lands on does its job.
- Focus on what your posts lead to rather than how many likes they get, which we cover in why likes on social media do not matter as much as you think.
Is the Meta One Subscription Worth It.
The Meta One subscription is worth paying for when clickable links, verification, support or automated WhatsApp replies will bring in more business than the plan costs. For most small local businesses that means either staying on the free version or choosing Essential or Advanced for the one profile that matters most, rather than paying for every plan on every account. Meta is still rolling the plans out, so features, link allowances and UK prices may change over the coming months.
If you would like us to look at how your social media, adverts and website work together, and whether Meta One makes sense for your business, book a free audit or get in touch and we will talk it through.
