I’m Stephen. I am 20 years old and I will be working alongside Kieran doing web development and website maintenance here at Sokada.
If I am not gaming, I will be spending my free time programming small projects using popular game engines to further my knowledge. I also enjoy playing very competitive games which get my heart pumping, even though I am still not good at them.
I became intrigued by software and programming at a very early age, when I was introduced to my first computer. My dad gave me a headstart by showing me tools that I could use which I was able to pick up fairly quickly. I started with Gamemaker Studio where I had learned the very basics of game development. This sparked my interest in programming so I decided to install the two big game engines Unity and Unreal where I started making small projects.
I have been teaching myself a few different programming languages that have helped me understand the world of software a whole lot more. These being:
- HTML & CSS
Before Sokada I have spent a lot of my working life in retail. This has skyrocketed my confidence and social skills which I had a lack of before I started working. My last place of work was John Lewis where I advised customers on technical products such as laptops, phones and tablets. I also gave techincal support to customers who may have needed it. I have always wanted to move into software/website development so I could improve my skills and gain valuable experience.
I left college with a level 3 qualification in General IT and Programming. This gave me important knowledge in others areas such as networking, databases and e-commerce. I found the content about programming the most interesting since it allowed me to learn anything I may have missed while teaching myself.
After discovering Sokada through my parents, I was very intrigued with everything that they had to offer. I instantly got in contact and was able to meet the team. I was pleasently surprised with the passion they all had for their work and the ability to build off of interesting ideas. This was the perfect opportunity to move into something that I wanted to do and will be an amazing experience to learn alongside members of the team.
