If you want to know how to improve SEO for landing pages, the page needs to do more than look good. It has to answer the searcher’s question clearly, load quickly, guide visitors towards an action and show search engines why your business can be trusted. Today, this means thinking beyond traditional SEO and also considering AEO, GEO and E-E-A-T. It is weird, because if you were to search via Google on how to improve SEO for landing pages, some of these answers are really old and possibly quite outdated, so be careful!

Search has changed. People are no longer only typing short phrases into Google and scrolling through a list of links. They are asking detailed questions, using voice search, reading AI Overviews and comparing businesses before they even click through to a website. This means your landing pages need to be helpful, specific and easy for both people and search engines to understand.

What is SEO?

SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the process of improving a web page so it has a better chance of appearing when someone searches for something relevant to your business.

Good SEO is not about trying to trick Google. It is about creating useful pages that answer real questions, match search intent and make it easy for search engines to crawl, index and understand your content.

To improve SEO for landing pages, SEO should include:

Keyword research
Page titles and meta descriptions
Clear headings
Helpful content
Internal links
Fast loading times
Mobile-friendly design
Structured data
Strong calls to action

What Is A Landing Page?

A landing page is the page a visitor arrives at after clicking a link, advert, search result, email campaign or social media post. The aim of a landing page is usually to encourage one clear action. That might be making an enquiry, booking a call, downloading a guide, buying a product or requesting a quote.

A good landing page should be focused. It should give the visitor the information they need, remove confusion and make the next step obvious. Once you have clicked away from a landing page, then you may well not find it again as it does not sit in the top menu.

SEO, AEO, GEO and E-E-A-T

Modern search is not just about ranking in the traditional search results. Your landing pages also need to support:

  • SEO, which helps your page appear in search engines.
  • AEO, or answer engine optimisation, which helps your content answer direct questions clearly. This is useful for featured snippets, voice search and question-led searches.
  • GEO, or generative engine optimisation, which focuses on making your content clear, trustworthy and useful enough to be referenced by AI search tools and AI-generated answers.
  • E-E-A-T, which stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trust. This helps show that your content has been written or reviewed by people who understand the subject and can be trusted.

For a landing page, this means being specific, accurate and useful. It also means showing real experience where possible, such as case studies, client examples, testimonials, accreditations, author information and clear business details.

Start With Search Intent

Before choosing keywords, you need to understand what the visitor actually wants.

Are they looking for information?
Are they comparing services?
Are they ready to buy? This is important!
Are they looking for a local company?
Are they trying to solve a problem?

A landing page should match the intent behind the search. For example, someone searching for “SEO services in Sussex” is likely looking for a business that can help them. Someone searching for “what is the difference between SEO, AEO & GEO” may still be researching and may need a more educational page.

This is why search intent matters. If your page does not match what the user expects, they are unlikely to stay, enquire or buy.

Choose Focused Keyword Phrases

Keyword research is still important, but the way we use keywords has changed. Instead of repeating the same phrase too many times, focus on a main keyword phrase and a group of related terms. These help search engines understand the topic without making the content sound forced.

For example, a car hire company in London would find it difficult to rank for a broad term like “car hire”. A more focused phrase such as “car hire in North London” or “business car hire in Camden” may be more realistic because it is more specific.

For landing page SEO, think about phrases your customers are likely to search for, such as:

SEO services in East Sussex
website design for small businesses
local marketing agency in Sussex
WordPress website support
Google Ads management for small businesses

The more specific the page, the easier it is to write content that matches the search.

Use Keywords Naturally In The Content

Once you have chosen your main keyword phrase, use it in the places that matter most. This includes the page title, H1 heading, opening paragraph, meta description and some of the body content.

You should also use similar keyword phrases throughout the page. This helps build context and avoids repetition.

For example, if your main phrase is “SEO for landing pages”, related phrases might include:

landing page optimisation
search-friendly landing pages
improving landing page visibility
landing page content for SEO
conversion-focused landing pages

Do not overuse your keyword. If the page sounds unnatural when read aloud, it probably needs editing. Google’s systems are far better at understanding context than they used to be, so write for people first.

Create A Strong Page Title

The page title is one of the most important elements on a landing page. It helps search engines understand the topic and gives users a reason to click. A good title should be clear, specific and relevant. It should include the main keyword phrase where it fits naturally, but it also needs to sound appealing.

Write A Useful Meta Description

The meta description is the short summary that may appear under your page title in search results. It is not a direct ranking factor in the same way as other SEO elements, but it can influence whether someone chooses to click. A good meta description should clearly explain what the page offers and why it is useful.

Keep it relevant, avoid stuffing it with keywords and make sure it matches the page content. We always add our business name and a summary of what we do to the meta description, but it needs to be a well written couple of sentences rather than bullet points. If Google thinks another part of the page is more relevant, then it will use that instead of your meta description.

Use Headings To Structure The Page

Headings help users scan the page and help search engines understand how the content is organised.

Your page should have one H1 heading, which is usually the main title. The rest of the page should then use H2 and H3 headings to break the content into clear sections.

For example:

H1: SEO Services for Small Businesses
H2: What our SEO service includes
H2: Who we work with
H2: Why choose Sokada?
H2: Get a lead generation audit

Good headings also help with AEO because they make it easier to answer specific questions. If someone searches “what should be included on a landing page?”, a well-structured page gives search engines a clearer answer to work with.

Write Content That Proves Your Knowledge

E-E-A-T is especially important for pages that ask people to trust your advice, services or recommendations. To support this on landing pages, include content that shows experience and credibility. This could include:

  • Clear explanations of your services
  • Real examples of work you have completed
  • Case studies
  • Client testimonials
  • Team information
  • Reviews
  • Accreditations or memberships
  • Clear contact details
  • A consistent brand presence

Try to avoid vague claims such as “we are the best”. Instead, explain what you do, who you help and what results you aim to achieve.

How To Improve SEO For Landing Pages

Answer Common Questions

AEO is all about answering the questions people are asking.

Adding a short FAQ section to a landing page can help users make decisions and can give search engines clear, direct answers to use.

For example, an SEO landing page might answer:

How long does SEO take?
How much does SEO cost?
Do I need SEO if I already have a website?
Can SEO help local businesses?
What is included in an SEO review?

Keep answers clear and useful. Do not add questions just for the sake of it. Every answer should help the visitor decide what to do next. It has been recognised recently that FAQs are not now being taken into account as websites are showing more generic questions in their text, so make sure these are really relevant to your topic.

Add Internal Links

Internal links help visitors move through your website and also help search engines understand the relationship between your pages.

For example, a landing page about SEO could link to:

A blog post about local SEO
A case study showing improved enquiries
A service page about website design
A contact page
A guide about Google Business Profile

Use descriptive link text where possible. Instead of “click here”, use wording that explains where the link goes, such as “read our local SEO guide” or “view our website design services”.

And don’t forget, if people click through lots of internal links, then it keeps them on your website longer, telling Google that you could be a good authority in your field of expertise!

Make The Page Fast And Easy To Use

Page speed and user experience are still really important. Google’s Core Web Vitals look at loading performance, interactivity and visual stability. In simple terms, your page should load quickly, respond smoothly and not jump around while someone is trying to read or click. At Sokada, we trhink this is a given – however there are so many websites who do not adhere to this and are very slow to load. This is definitely not good practise, to keep a customer on your website, but also for search engines who will favour a fast loading website over a slower one.

To improve landing page speed:

Compress images
Use modern image formats where possible
Remove unused plugins
Avoid loading too many scripts
Use reliable hosting
Keep the design focused
Test on mobile devices

A slow page can frustrate visitors, especially on mobile, which can definitely reduce enquiries and sales.

Use Images And Video With Care

Images and videos can help explain your service and make a landing page more engaging, but they should support the message rather than distract from it. Every image should have a reason to be there. It might show your team, your work, a process, a product or a result.

Make sure images are compressed and include helpful alt text. Alt text should describe the image for accessibility and search engines. Avoid filling alt text with keywords.

Keep The Call To Action Clear

Every landing page needs a clear next step. Do you want the visitor to call, email, fill in a form, book an audit or download a guide? Make that action easy to find.

A strong call to action might be:

Book a lead generation audit
Find out about SEO support
Get a quote for your new website
Speak to our team
Send us your enquiry

The call to action should appear more than once on longer pages, especially after key sections where the visitor may be ready to act.

Keep Your Content Up To Date

Search changes, customer behaviour changes and your services may change too. This means your landing pages should not be left untouched for years. Review important landing pages at least once a year. For high-value pages, review them more often.

Updating content helps keep it useful, accurate and aligned with how people are searching now.
