Snapchat was brought to the scene in 2011 and became increasingly popular with young people. But, like every social media platform, we question Should I be using Snapchat for my business?

 What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is quite literally what it says, you snap pictures and chat. It[‘s a fun messaging platform that allows you to send quick pictures to each other. Doesn’t really seem like it would work for business, does it? Well, not only can you communicate with all your friends but you can also post stories. Very similar to Instagram in the sense that it is updates of your day for all your friends to see.

How can it benefit a business?

If you make your account one that people subscribe to rather than add it means you can access the discovery page. Discover is where brands and influencers come up. Anything from news to brands ‘stories pop up in the discovery section, this is also a great way to get known by the younger generation.

Humanise your brand!

Snapchat was designed to be fun and entertaining, it’s the complete opposite of a platform like LinkedIn. It is intended for a brand to show its fun side. This is a great way to show the faces behind your brand. Get your team to post stories of them, have fun and show that there are people behind the business.

It’s not for for everyone

Like all social media platforms, it’s all about trial and error, it’s not going to be for everyone. If you are a very serious business that likes to keep a very business-to-business status then Snapchat probably isn’t for you. But, if you are a clothing or sweet brand for example, then this is the perfect fun app to get recognised on.

Advertising

If you set up a business account you will have access to ‘Accounts Manager’ this is where you can run ads and campaigns for your brand on Snapchat. You can do a range of things from age targeting and location-based targeting. Just make sure to set your account as a business account to get the full range of things Snapchat has to offer.
